ground rules:
1.  will try to stay as positive as i possibly can - unless there is a glaring deficiency


2.  Will stay focused on aesthetics, architectural styles, theories about what the architect's intent may have been, and opinion about overall quality.  I won't delve into technical issues as this is a review of architectural style and factors relating to a work of architecture's beauty, and not a building inspection, zoning code interpretation or due diligence study.


3.  why am i doing this?   very simply it's because no one else is.  It's funny in luxury circles how we are knowledgeable about the wine we drink, the watches we wear, the luggage we tote around, cars we drive, and especially jewelry, antiques, and other ancient and modern art - but when it comes to our knowledge of the ultimate luxury - real estate - we seem to go blank.. and focus on basic things like view, location, a few cool materials from far-off places..... hire a few engineers and inspectors to make sure the science is pretty good - and then we proceed to fill up the building with all of the things that we value, cherish and have an incredible amount of knowledge about.


4.  Finally - i'll look at what the home means in terms of spatial organization and it's relationship to you, the user.  Most people can feel how the space effects them, but it's hard to put it into words.  i'll attempt to do that here, and make some comments on things like progression, arrival, compression and expansion, surprise and delight.  The buildings have a look and personality that characterizes them as energized, busy, fussy, soft, hard, and many other adjectives that will rub you in the right or wrong way depending on how you see it.  This is experiencing architecture, and hopefully it will be a fun read.]]>
